Lady Bugs 5 - Geckos 0

The "Lady Bugs" U-10 Girls Soccer Team remains Undefeated in the 2001 soccer season. They had an awesome game against The Geckos. This game was played on September 22, 2001,  on a beautiful Saturday morning, Octo Inn Soccer Complex at 9:30 am. We missed Sarah P in this game.

This game was played through a web of passes which started from the defense working it's way up to the Geckos' goalie. As an example, Erin's goal (the 4th) for the "Lady Bugs" occurred near the 20th minute and started at midfield when Casey retrieved the ball, trapped it and passed it to Vanessa, who then passed the ball in one touch to Taylor. Taylour trapped the ball, faked it to the left and saw Erin open at the center of the Geckos' goalie. Taylour passed the ball to Erin, who at the first touch kicked the ball to the left side of the goalie, placing it into the net. It was the result of good practice where the theme of the week was "passing".

The "Lady Bugs" team started the first half playing aggressively. The first goal was scored at the second minute. Bethany trapped the ball from a throw in and scored a goal with a strong kick. Taylour fired 3 shots at goal within the first 5 minutes. Erin and Sarah D produced nice passing combinations. Rebecca was solid defending and recovering the ball. Wendy as a goalie did not have too much to do except for a nice dive at the 15th minute when a strong Geckos attacker shot at goal. Briana has proven that in spite of being her first year of playing soccer, she is able to play against any attacker. Briana has quickly developed her understanding of the game, specially in the one to one mark, applying pressure to contain the opponents attack.

The "Lady Bugs" players continued playing a strong first half. The second goal was scored by Taylour who took a hard shot at goal which passed through three Geckos defenders. The third goal resulted from a combination of passes between Erin and Bethany. Erin pushed the ball forward to Bethany who took a shot crossing the ball to the left side beating the goalie. Lindsay and Casey showed great passing with the participation of Kellie, who controlled the midfield. The "Lady Bugs" players dominated completely the game, they kept possession of the ball most of the time. It seemed that only one team was doing all the passing and kicking.

The second half continue to be dominated by the "Lady Bugs" team. Kellie, Sarah D, Casey, Corina kept the "Lady Bugs" team moving forward. Corina played only in the second half because of a dental appointment. However, she was determined to play and scored the fifth goal for the "Lady Bugs" team. Linette was solid in defending the center of the field. Lindsay used her speed to blocked in the penalty box a fast run by a Geckos' forward. Vanessa played goalie most of the second half, Wendy was moved to defend the left side of the "Lady Bugs" field. Our players once again played an awesome game, showing respect to the officials, following the laws and honoring the game.
