Lady Bugs 4 - Kicking Kittens 1

Ladybugs goal !!!

The "Lady Bugs" U-10 Girls Soccer Team had a great game against the Kicking Kittens, who played an awesome first half even getting ahead in the score. This game was played on September 15, 2001,  on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, Octo Inn Soccer Complex at 2:30 pm.

Ladybugs persistent attack !!!

Wendy again played an awesome game as goalie. She is getting used to covering her goal area and be a leader in the defense. Wendy saved two Kicking Kittens shots at the 11th and 23rd minutes. We missed Taylour, Vanessa and Casey in this game. Briana showed that soccer can be easily played in spite of playing in her first soccer season. Briana defended and covered the left side, not allowing the Kicking Kittens forwards to get near The "Lady Bugs" area. Linette showed up late for this game, but quickly set the tone defending our team as a center full back. Rebecca has gained a lot of confidence playing as defender in the left zone. She cleared the ball with a strong kick to midfield at the 13th minute when two Kicking Kittens players challenged her.

Ladybugs celebrating another goal !!!

The Kicking Kittens team started this game playing with 4 to 5 defenders, having only one player at midfield and 2 forwards who tried to steal the ball from The "Lady Bugs" players. This strategy worked for them when at the 13th minute, a loose ball was trapped by a Kicking Kittens' player who took a shot on goal. The shot was partially blocked by Wendy, however, the ball ended up inside the goal.

Ladybugs celebrating another goal !!!

The "Lady Bugs" players are characterized to have a spirit of determination, as they came back to the second half ready to win the game. Just at the 30 seconds into the game, Sarah F was fouled near the Kicking Kittens area. Sarah D then received the ball from a rebound and dribbled 2 defenders taking a shot scoring the equalizer for The "Lady Bugs". Beth took another shot at the 2nd minute that was blocked by the goalie. Erin had a great shot at goal which passed near the left post. Erin and Beth started to open the field with wide passes to the left and right, creating good scoring opportunities.

A great combination of passes by the "Lady Bugs" players was the  "motto" of the second half. The "Lady Bugs" completely dominated the game since the beginning of the second half. Kellie stole the ball and passed it to Sarah D, who took a spoon kick sailing the ball over the cross bar. At the 11th minute, Bethany took the ball on the left side, faced 2 defenders, dribbled them and without any problem scored the second goal for the "Lady Bugs".

Lindsay, Corina and Sarah P shined at midfield, they were also part of the "Lady Bugs" attack and contained the Kicking Kittens offense. As an example, Sarah P assisted in the third goal. She trapped the ball with the sole of her right foot and turned around passing the ball to Bethany. Beth moved to the left, took a shot at goal and crossed the ball to the left side of the goalie, scoring the 3rd goal. Erin also took more shots at goal which were deflected by the goalie.

Another example of good play was performed by Lindsay when she was pressured by 2 Kicking Kittens players who were running toward the "Lady Bugs" goal. In a sudden move, Lindsay stopped the ball with her back heel changing direction of the ball, not allowing a scoring opportunity to the Kicking Kittens players. On the other hand, Corina showed that even a small player can be a good match to taller players. She is not afraid of getting into the middle of the action, defending and passing the ball to her team mates.

As the game was getting about to conclude, The "Lady Bugs" put more pressure into the game knowing that the Kicking Kittens players were getting tired. At the 24th minute, Erin fought the ball near the Kicking Kittens area, she was able to get the ball and cross it to Bethany. Bethany faked it, beat the defender and took a shot to the right side of the goalie, scoring the fourth goal for our team.  The "Lady Bugs" players once again played an awesome game, showing respect to the officials, following the laws and honoring the game.
