Lady Bugs 8 - Storm 1

The "Lady Bugs" U-10 Girls Soccer Team remains Undefeated in the 2001 soccer season. They played a great game against The Storm. This game was played on October 13, 2001,  on a beautiful Saturday morning, Octo Inn Soccer Complex at 9:30 am.

The "Lady Bugs" players started to dominate the game from the start. A series of shots were fired against the Storm's goalie. The ball was played on the Storm's field most of the first half. At the 4th minute, Taylour propelled the ball with a powerful shot which hit the horizontal bar. That was the alarm call for the Storm to tighten their defense. Sarah D and Erin continue to fire shots at goal. The Storm's goalie did a great save at the 8th minute. At the 10th minute, the "Lady Bugs" scored the first goal. Briana started the play with a throw-in to Erin who passed the ball to Taylour. Taylour scored with a right kick to the left side of the goalie.

The "Lady Bugs" defense shined in this game. At the 13th minute, Briana played an amazing defense while facing the Storms forwards and midfielders. Linette and Rebecca also contributed in the defense. Vanessa trapped the ball on the air to the delight of the audience. Sarah P, and Cassey were instrumental in neutralizing the Storms' midfield. Erin produced an nice breakaway and passed the ball to Kellie who took a shot at goal, however, the goalie blocked her shot. A series of substitutions were made in the "Lady Bugs" team allowing all our players to be in the game. The Storm managed to scored a goal when one of the players broke away from the defense. However, the "Lady Bugs" answered back quickly with another goal. Sarah D took the ball at midfield from a rebound and continued forward, dribbling two Storm defenders, and took a shot with a powerful kick to the left side of the goalie, scoring the second goal for our team.

Near the end of the first half, Sarah D took another shot at goal which hit the goalie on her face, the goalie was substituted. Sarah D's strong kick was a well placed shot to the right upper corner. For the second half, the "Lady Bugs" came back determined to win the game. The "Lady Bugs" switched goalies, Sarah D played goalie and became an spectator of the game. Linette, Rebecca and Briana had an easy second half as defenders, as the ball continued to be played in the Storm's court. At the first minute, Beth scored the third goal being assisted by Corina who trapped the ball at the center of the Storm's area and crossed it to Beth. Bethany just placed the ball to the right side of the goalie. Corina has become the icon at midfield, constantly attacking, passing the ball and putting pressured to defend her midfield area.

The "Lady Bugs" players continued to play aggressively trying to increase the score. Nice crosses were observed in the second half. Corina continued to pass and cross the ball to the wings. In the 5th minute, Beth kicked a corner kick to Erin, who passed it to Taylour, then Taylour shot at goal which passed near the right post. At the 8th minute, Briana did a throw-in,  Erin trapped it and continue dribbling the goal, she had the chance to take a shot and score a goal, but unselfishly passed the ball to Beth who was in better position, then Beth scored another goal for the "Lady Bugs". It was a nice team work and noble gesture by Erin.

Wendy played great defense as part of the second half substitutions. Casey defended the left side without any problem and even ventured to be part of the attack and executed the throw-ins at the left side. Lindsay played right wing and took several shots at goal, however the Storm goalie was alert and blocked several shots. At the 10th minute, Taylour fought the ball at midfield and continue dribbling, she faced two defenders, faked it to the left and moved the ball to the right beating the second defender, then fired a shot to the right side of the goalie scoring her second personal goal in this game. So far, it was one of the most beautiful goals scored by the "Lady Bugs" in this season. In the 17th minute, Taylour trapped the ball on the left side of the field and passed it to Kellie who placed the ball to the corner beating the goalie. This was Kellie's first goal of this season.

Lindsay continued to put pressure and fire some shots at goal. At the 20th minute, Kellie received the ball from Vanessa, then crossed it to the right side of the field. Lindsay trapped the ball and run forward, kicking the ball near to the left post beating the goalie. The ball bounced off the goalie's hand.  At the 23th minute, a fast run by Taylour was rewarded with another goal, Taylour kicked the ball which passed between the legs of the Storm's goalie, sealing the 8-1 victory. Our players once again played an awesome game, showing respect to the officials, following the laws and honoring the game.
