Lady Bugs 7 - Vipers 2

The "Lady Bugs" U-10 Girls Soccer Team was UNDEFEATED in the 2001 soccer season. The last game was played against The Vipers. This game was played on November 10, 2001, at 2:30 pm on a mild cold Saturday, in Octo Inn Soccer Complex. We missed Lindsay in this game.

The "Lady Bugs" players finished the 2001 season with an easy win against The Vipers. Our players completely dominated this game. The "Lady Bugs" team allowed the opponent to score a couple of goals to show that in spite of being a strong team, the "Lady Bugs" players are also fair. Our team had a strong defense, a solid midfield and relentless strikers who time after time, kept shooting at goal. Wendy and Vanessa alternated as goalies, the defense was composed by Rebecca, Linette, Briana, Casey. The "Lady Bugs" midfield overpowered the Vipers and took control of the game. Taylour, Vanessa, Sarah P, Corina, and Sarah D played midfield and were part of the constant "Lady Bugs" attack. Erin, Sarah D and Bethany were the strikers in this game.

The "Lady Bugs" players took several shots at goal. Erin, Bethany, Sarah D, Taylour, Corina, Vanessa and Kellie managed to kick the ball at goal since the start of the game. At the 4th minute, Bethany trapped the ball, dribbled her opponent and pushed the ball across the Vipers goal line scoring the first goal. On minute later, Sarah D faced two defenders, faked to the right and broke away around them, taking a shot at goal that passed near the goalie, scoring the second goal for the "Lady Bugs". Rebecca had an impressive and strong one-to-one tackle which produced a sound typical of a hard hit tackle, to the delight of the spectators. Linette was superb in controlling the Vipers attempt to get near Wendy's goal box. She ventured to be part of the attack crossing the midfield line several times and pushing her team mates forward.

Before the 9th minute into the first half, a weave of passes occurred in the "Lady Bugs" team that resulted in the third goal. Briana intercepted and stole the ball from a Vipers player and passed it to Sarah D, Sarah D then crossed the ball to Bethany who took at shot at goal. The ball crossed the goal line at the middle of the goal box. The Vipers' goalie was positioned on the left side.  Wendy showed great concentration when she blocked a strong Vipers shot from the right side of the field. A series of substitution were made to give all the players enough playing time.

For the second half, Vanessa took over as a goalie. Our players continued to put pressure and managed to increase the score. Erin, Bethany and Sarah D took the lead in the first minutes. Before the 4th minute, Wendy cleared the ball to Erin with a header at midfield. Erin took the opportunity to run on the right side of the field and even though she had a narrow angle to shoot, she drove the ball between the goalie and the left goal post scoring the 4th "Lady Bugs" goal. Right after this goal, Sarah D broke away in a fast run toward the Vipers goal box. Sarah D then took a  strong shot that hit the goalies face. Five minutes later, Sarah D dribble three Vipers defenders and with a soft kick beat the goalie again increasing the score in favor of the "Lady Bugs".

The "Lady Bugs" players are characterized to pursue in the attack in spite of being ahead in the score. It is rewarding to see our defenders push the rest of the team forward. They position themselves at the midfield line shortening and limiting the opponent's playing field. Another run by Taylour from midfield allowed Erin to trap the ball and dribbled her defender. Erin then pushed the ball and shot at the right side of the goalie scoring the 6th "Lady Bugs" goal.

There were a series of shots at goal near the end of the game. One of them was made by Sarah P who received the ball from Corina's excellent pass. Sarah P saw the Vipers' goalie positioned on the right side of her goal box and without hesitation, Sarah P took a wide shot to the left side scoring the 7th "Lady Bugs" goal. This was the first goal ever scored by Sarah P in an organized league game. All the "Lady Bugs" players and parents celebrated Sarah P goal. Our players once again played an awesome game, showing respect to the officials, following the laws and honoring the game.
