PREDATORS 1 - DIXON DRAGONS 1

By Matt Rosemond

Every time the Predators and Dixon Dragons meet it's a hard fought defensive battle. This round one game in the District Cup on a windy rainy December day was no exception. With the wind blowing about 30 mph to one end of the field, each team had to capitalize on this advantage in order to be successful. The Predators had the wind behind them in the first half and fired 9 shots compared to the Dragons 1 shot.

Predators equalizing the game !!!

Unfortunately, none of the shots found the back of the net. Melissa, Amy, Kristina, Andrea, and Katrina all gave it a try on the front line in the first half, keeping the pressure on. Midfielders- Ericka, Sabi, Angel and Sara all did a nice job controlling the ball and setting up shots for the forwards. It is great to see all the combination passing starting to emerge in the midfield. Kelsey, Ally, Yolanda, and Kylie played the entire first half on defense with Erica shivering in the goal. The first half ended 0-0 and now the Predators would have to face the wind.

Predators kept gfiring shots at goal !!!

With the wind behind them, the Dragons scored quickly in the second half, making the score 1-0. The Predators now faced a very difficult uphill battle with the wind and rain. But as usual, the Predators never gave up. Despite the huge wind advantage, the Predators only gave up four shots to the Dragons in the second half.

Predators continued with the attack !!!

The Defenders played great and Erica was exceptional in goal. With about 5 minutes left in the game, the Predators had the Dragons back on their heals. Katrina took an excellent shot against the wind that just missed. Then with about 2 minutes left the referee called one of the Dragons for a push in the penalty area, so it was up to Kristina to save the tie with a penalty kick. With the rain pouring down and the wind in her face, Kristina made it look easy as she stuck one in the corner to tie the game. The whistle blew with the game as a draw 1-1.
