PREDATORS 1 - EL DORADO STRIKERS 1

Predators Tie Strikers in First Division C Game

By Matt Rosemond

Predators celebrating a goal !!!

The Predators traveled to El Dorado Hills to take on the Strikers in their first game since they were moved up to Division C. This game was played on October 13, 2001. We missed Kristina in this game. The competition level was definitely much higher in this game than in previous E Division games, and the Predators proved worthy of the task at hand. "Sparked" by a pre-game meal consisting of two dozen donuts, the Predators came out of the box with a little more energy than usual. While this practice is not highly recommended by most trainers and physicians, Snack Coordinator Margi Rosemond likes donuts, and you don't want to mess with the snack coordinator or she might start bringing fruit and other healthy stuff to the games.

Although the pace of the game was quick early on, the Predators only managed 3 shots in the first half. Amy kicked in the Predators only goal 10 minutes into the first half after beating two defenders to the ball and firing a quick shot that took the Strikers by surprise. Meanwhile Kelsey, Yolanda, Melissa, and Kylie were holding off the Striker attack of defense. The midfield consisted of Sara, Sabi, Ericka and Angel. Ally, Amy, and Andrea started off in front, making it an "all A" front line. Erica also gave it a try up front before moving to goalie. Later on in the first half, the Strikers took a great shot that was headed for the corner of the goal. Katrina dove and knocked the ball down, making a tremendous stop. The ball was still loose in the box and the Strikers made a nice follow, making the score 1-1 to end the first half. Katrina was injured on the play, but came back to play a strong left wing in the second half.

The second half was hard fought and evenly matched. Kelsey gave it a try up front as Amy moved to Sweeper. Kylie moved to midfield and Ally played defender. Everyone contributed to the effort on defense with a total of 14 steals and 14 intercepts. Moreover, there was some nice trapping and ball control exhibited in this game by the Predators. Melissa had her best game of the year with 5 intercepts and 4 steals. The Predator Goalies both played great as most of the Striker shots were good ones. The game ended as a tie 1-1. The shots were also even at 13-13. This was a great start in a much tougher division. More importantly, the Predators are still undefeated in league play. The team celebrated the tie with more healthy snacks by eating cookies supplied by our new team cook, Mr. Sweeney. There were reports that our Snack Coordinator was seen later at McDonalds eating a Big Mac and Fries, I guess she was still hungry after all the donuts and cookies.
